Abstract

The small angle neutron scattering from copper and two α-phase CuAl alloys has been investigated after selected thermal and thermal-mechanical treatments in order to test an outstanding argument that there is bulk segregation of aluminium in these alloys. Based on absolute integrated intensity determinations, bulk segregation of more than about 0.08 vol.% of a second phase can be ruled out. It is shown that the very weak observed small angle scattering is in excellent agreement with that predicted for dislocation scattering.
