Abstract

Neutron diagnostic device is one of the most essential devices in nuclear fusion research. A neutron diagnostic system using a stilbene scintillator was developed for the Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) tokamak. Experiments using the neutron diagnostic system were carried out for performance test of the system during the KSTAR plasma experiments. In the first experiment, there was a limit in the neutron discrimination ability under the condition of high count rates > 5×105 counts/s. In order to improve this performance, the neutron diagnostic system was modified. Consequently, it was confirmed that the neutron signals can be distinguished under the condition of high count rates > 1×106 counts/s.
