Abstract

Neutron capture cross sections of barium and gadolinium isotopes have been measured using the Karlsruhe 4π Barium Fluoride Detector. Severe discrepancies were found compared to previous experiments. The results allow to improve the analysis of branchings in the s‐process path. The barium data are also used for the interpretation of isotopic anomalies and to separate the r‐ and s‐ contributions of the element barium. There are indications that the solar barium abundance is larger than given in the literature.
