Abstract

A method for determining the isospin term of the optical potential by comparison of the optical potentials found from analyses of neutron and proton scattering by the same nucleus at the same energy was presented. Calculations were made using previous data for 14.5-Mev neutrons and data obtained from 17.3- Mev protons elastically scattered by natural copper. Complications due to the energy difference between the two sets of measurements and to the mixture of isotopes in the target were resolved. Optical model analyses of the data were made and the values of the potertials were presented. (C. E. S.)
