II - Finite neutrino momentum effects Duncan, R. C. ; Wasserman, I. ; Shapiro, S. L. Abstract The possibility that the kinematical effects of finite neutrino momentum P(v) alone can lead to a substantially enhanced neutrino emissivity is examined. The effects of nonzero P(v) and quantum chromodynamic coupling constant are simultaneously considered. It is demonstrated that the main result of including the effects of finite P(v) is to derive the composition of the quark liquid slightly away from beta equilibrium. The electron fraction at any density is reduced, and the extinction density, which now depends on temperature as well as alpha(c), is lowered. The neutrino emissivity is then lower than its beta equilibrium value at any density. The fractional decrease is negligible at low densities, where the total emissivity is large, and is appreciable only near the extinction density, where the total emissivity is negligibly small. Thus, the total neutrino emissivity of the quark core of a neutron star should be only insignificantly lower than would be found assuming beta equilibrium.
