Abstract
We consider the electromagnetic scattering of neutrinos via their magnetic moment in astrophysical systems. We find that in the Sun the scattering processes flipping the neutrino from its left-handed state to its right-handed state are unimportant for all allowable values of the neutrino magnetic moment. However, considering these processes in the supernova SN1987A, we find that the upper limit of the neutrino magnetic moment to be in the order of 3 × 10−11 μB.
