Abstract

ABSTRACT.Personality disorders are a varied group of psychiatric illnesses characterized by labile mood and maladaptive behavior. This paper reviews the evidence for biologic factors in personality disorders. Although these patients have been studied inconclusively with EEG, recent developments in electroneurodiagnostic technology may provide more answers. Changes in quantitative EEG, event related potentials, and sleep patterns are all reported in personality disorders, and suggest an organic basis for these illnesses.
