Abstract

This article reviews common and rare neurological complications that can occur following obstetric regional anesthesia. Parturients are one of the largest patient groups to receive major regional anesthesia. They also are one of the healthiest and least willing to tolerate adverse outcomes. This article examines evidence-based information on the incidence, diagnosis, and recommended therapies for postdural puncture headache, postpartum back pain, peripheral nerve injuries, space-occupying spinal lesions, and anterior spinal artery syndrome. The common neurological diagnostic tools used to investigate these complications are described.
