Abstract

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a devastating psychiatric disorder, and PTSD patients have a >3 fold risk of developing comorbid autoimmune diseases. While the etiology of this increased risk remains unclear, a known hallmark of PTSD is increased sympathetic tone. Therefore, we hypothesized that sympathoexcitation in PTSD may be causally linked to inflammation and the predisposition to autoimmunity.
