Abstract

Although nervous system induced pulmonary edema appears to have a relatively well established neuroeffector site, the pathogenesis of this condition remains incompletely understood. Both hemodynamic and nonhemodynamic components exist. The hemodynamic (cardiogenic) component is relatively brief and may unmask a noncardiogenic edema. Experimental models, human studies, and clinical reports also are discussed and evaluated.
