Abstract

(Int J Obstet Anesth. 2021;48:103176) Rates of emergency cesarean delivery (CD) are higher in obstetric patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 50 kg/m2 or more, known as super obesity. Reliable neuraxial techniques are needed in the event of emergency CD. While combined spinal-epidural technique results in a lower proportion of catheters replaced than epidurals without dural puncture (EPI) in the general population, it is not clear if this is also true for super-obese patients. This study aimed to determine the failure rate of first neuraxial catheter placement for labor analgesia in super-obese parturients.
