Abstract

Although neural transplantation represents a potential treatment approach for many central nervous system disorders it is not clear that neural transplants function as other than local delivery systems for neurotransmitters. If this is the case, then other delivery systems, such as implantable infusion devices, may offer certain advantages over neural transplantation. Both treatment approaches require far more clinical investigation before their applicability can be demonstrated.
