Abstract

In article number 2000047, Rami Mhanna and co-workers show that tuning the degree of sulfation and concentration of glycosaminoglycan mimetic alginate sulfates enables controlled binding of basic fibroblast growth factor and nerve growth factor. Sulfated alginates are used to construct substrates with controlled growth factor loading for prolonged primary neural cell outgrowth in two and three dimensions, and to bioprint 3D neural networks using pressure-driven deposition through micropipette nozzles.
