Abstract
The performance of the energy-related evaluation of load-indentation measurements is demonstrated on the basis of bulk materials, particulary from TiN coated high speed steel samples. The results prove the efficiency of the new approach to a separation between coating and substrate properties, to quantify interface strength as well as to give reliable results also of specimens with considerable surface roughness. Relations to conventional sample characters such as indentation hardness and scratch adhesion are given
