Abstract

This paper provides an overview of BT’s 21st century network architecture. Analysis shows that this will deliver an improved customer experience, faster service provision and a significant overall cost reduction on today’s base. These aims can only be achieved by a ground-breaking approach which moves from multiple networks each providing one service to a true multiservice network where the services are delivered by combining reusable capabilities. The architecture is therefore based on network, intelligence and operational support systems built from reusable components and an application layer that can expose these capabilities through open interfaces.
