Abstract

The development of cloud computing technology is getting more and more attention. One of the most important technologies in cloud computing is virtualization, and cloud data centers process tasks by the Virtual Machines (VMs). Network traffic is generated by the communication between two VMs placed in different Physical Machines (PMs). Due to the expansion of the size of the cloud data center, the VMs are generating much more network traffic, which increases the load of the network resource and has an impact on the efficiency of the tasks. In this paper, a network traffic based VM migration algorithm (NTVMM) is proposed. According to the network traffic generated by the VMs, most appropriate VMs and PMs are selected to implement the VM migration. It is proved that the NTVMM algorithm can effectively reduce the network traffic generated by the VMs through simulation experiments under different conditions.
