Abstract

AbstractConventional management optimization models are being challenged by the evolution of electronic and optical networks and it is necessary to incorporate the stochastic effect of traffic flows into network models. This paper introduces the stochastic programming (SP) methodology to characterize the stochastic traffic. Two network models, capacity assignment and flow assignment, are proposed. One of the SP approaches, the Wait‐and‐See method, is integrated into the presented models. Simulation results are reported. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
