Network Operations enters the 1990s enjoying the highest quality in GTE history. MO importantly, GTE has achieved these quality objectives while managing the network wi continuously declining expense levels. To be sure, strategic capital investment has prov to be the foundation upon which our quality platform has been built. The commitment deploy digital switches (now covering approximately 75% of GTE lines) has positioned G for the next evolution, the Intelligent Network (IN). Driven by the fault-tolerant philosophy embedded in the digital switch, GTE is pursu similar network reliability standards in the transmission arena. Coplper-based, digital Carrie transmission systems are giving way to fiber optics and digital cross-connect syste Point-to-point, tree topologies are being supplanted with self-healing ring networks. Concurrent with these network deployment strategies, GTE has embarked upon a mas transition to state-of-the-art Network Operations Support Systems (OSS). Antiquated 0 which have served GTE exceedingly well in the formative years of Stored Program CO (SPC) switching are now being replaced by more powerful instruments designed to su the digital technologies of the present and the broadband networks of the approaching future. Using this combination. of network and OSS technology, GTE is identifying suppo consolidations which will provide a national quality focus while leveraging centraliz maximize technical exDertise with minimal costs.
