Abstract
Abstract This introduction draws the attention of the audience both to the sweetness of Nestor’s rhetoric and to his authority, which derives from his longevity: he has seen two generations of men perish and is now ruling over the third. Nestor occupies a unique position among the Greek heroes at Troy, for he has personally associated with the heroes of the past and has a personal record of achievement in the heroic past.
