Abstract

Abstract: In the memoir essay “Nesting,” a transgender man recalls the last months of his pre-transition pregnancy spent living with his then boyfriend in a converted garage infested by rats. As his due date draws near, he questions his ability to be a mother and finds himself more and more isolated. He bonds with his sister, who is also pregnant, and befriends the neighbor’s dog, who daily escapes her pen to find the only affection she’s ever known.
