Abstract
A newly identified gene in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is nested entirely within the coding sequence of another gene, YGR031W, albeit on the opposite strand of DNA. This formerly occult gene, designated “nested antisense gene-1” (NAG1), encodes a cell wall protein, according to Anuj Kumar of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Damian J. Krysan of the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, N.Y., whose findings are published in the August Eukaryotic Cell (7:1289–1298).
