Nested designs from sum-free sets

Abstract

Finite fields are partitioned into sum-free sets, and these sets are then used as initial blocks for constructing nested partially balanced incomplete block designs. The sum-free sets and the association classes of these designs may be mapped onto cyclotomic classes (or unions of cyclotomic classes), by taking automorphisms of the additive group of the field.
