Abstract
Blockade of the branches of the lumbar and sacral plexuses may be used as an alternative to caudal or epidural analgesia in children. Simple approaches are described using fascial planes and a loss of resistance technique to identify the location of each nerve. This technique has a low potential for morbidity in anesthetized children and can be adapted for continuous regional blockade as well as single-shot analgesia.
