Abstract

The use of antibacterial drugs is the main cause of drug-induced kidney disease in all age groups. Kidney damage occurs through two main mechanisms, i.e. directly and with the help of immunological mediators. For some antibiotics (aminoglycosides and vancomycin), nephrotoxicity, reversible after discontinuation of the drug, is a very common side effect, up to the onset of acute renal failure, the incidence of which is currently increasing.
