Abstract
JF): Neonicotinoid pesticides, applied to agricultural soil or seeds, can end up in the watershed negatively affecting fish, amphibians and other living things. Limiting water runoff containing neonics and residues of other pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers from farmers’ fields into waterways will help protect the ecosystem. Banning the use of neonics, as has been done in the UK, is one solution. Closely regulating/preventing neonic application on farmers’ fields near waterways, is another. However, no one governmental agency oversees run off from farmers’ fields into the watershed until it is too late and there is a fish kill or other obvious problem. We have requested the aid of Farmland LP to help enact legislation that would provide oversight of water runoff from agricultural land to help protect the web of life.
