  • Gram staining of the colonies showed gram-positive bacilli that were morphologically similar to those isolated from placenta

  • The possibility of nutritionally variant streptococci (NVS) should be considered when gram-positive cocci or bacilli are seen on Gram staining, but the cocci/bacilli grow poorly on nonsupplemented media
