Abstract

Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is a white matter injury that mostly occurs with prematurity at the gestational age (GA) of 24–32 weeks and birth weight below 1500 g. A major cause of PVL is neonatal hypoxic ischemia and/or hemorrhage around the ventricles of the brain, which could lead to neonatal seizure.1 The incidence of PVL in preterm infants declines with increasing GA.2 This report presents the case of a near-term neonate at GA of 36 4/7 weeks who had neonatal seizure at the age of 1.5 months and whose brain image showed significant bilateral PVL.
