Abstract

In their article, Maimburg et al1 suggest an association of neonatal jaundice with disorders of psychological development, which is in agreement with articles by other authors from Scandinavian countries.2 They performed a great research work, and we surely do not have the skills to criticize their conclusions on the basis of strong statistical findings. However, as clinical neonatologists, we feel uncomfortable with the fact that a (para) physiologic event, such as neonatal jaundice, may be implicated in the pathogenesis of a condition as severe as autism.
