Abstract

Two undescribed neo-clerodanes (1 and 2) and a novel tiliifolane (3) diterpenoids, were isolated from the leaves and flowers of Salvia pennellii. Wirikutin (1) and 15-epi-wirikutin (2) were isolated as a C-15 epimeric mixture containing a 5-hydroxyfuran-2(5H)-one moiety in the side chain of the neo-clerodane framework. Wixarikolide (3) was isolated as a Δ3(20) derivative of tiliifodiolide. The structures of compounds 1/2 were deduced through the analyses of their MS spectrometric, and the 1D/2D NMR data. The structure of 3 was determined directly by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The PTP1B inhibitory activity of compounds 1/2 was assayed.
