Abstract

The visual reactions of 28 genera of soil and plant nematodes to 38 coal-tar dyes fell into 3 classes: I-saturation reaction (primarily of order Enoplida), II-basophilic reaction (primarily of order Tylenchida), II resistant reaction (most genera of orders Tylenchida and Rhabditida). Classes differed with respect to color, locus of staining and concentration thresholds. In general, both living and dead nematodes gave similar reactions to dyes.
