Abstract

Residents of socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods have higher rates of cardiovascular disease, increased healthcare resource usage, and earlier death. The area deprivation index (ADI) is a tool that allows for percentile rankings of neighborhoods by socioeconomic disadvantage and includes factors for income, education, employment, and housing quality, where “neighborhood” is defined as a census block group containing ≤3000 people. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ADI for patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) to elucidate its potential impact on postoperative outcomes.
