Abstract
The National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) has just completed the second year of a comprehensive work program that largely focused on the long-term view of e-health for Australia: the development of a national approach to Shared Electronic Health Records (SEHR). A national system of sharing electronic health records will improve the delivery of health services and lead to better patient outcomes. The NEHTA will present the business case for the SEHR to the Council of Australian Governments in early 2008. This article summarises the key outcomes towards establishing priority 'stepping-stones' that have been achieved in the last 12 months.
