Abstract
This monograph seeks to develop a strategy through which musical theatre performers can negotiate the contradictory requirements of the three disciplines they must master; dancing, singing, and acting. Additionally, it seeks to further discussion across the disciplines at a pedagogical level. Using an Action Research model, this investigation explores the relevant commonalities and differences between the disciplines through an analysis of pertinent literature and practice followed by experimentation in the studio. The strategy was tested on a small sample group of students and observed by colleagues, all of whom provided detailed reflection and discussion. This experimental workshop revealed the participants were able to implement the strategy with little difficulty, and it was concluded by all present it improved the fullness of their phonation, their articulation, their stress levels during performance, the precision of their dance steps, and their confidence.
