Abstract

Although the subject of atoms in strong laser fields has been in the focus of much attention for the last thirty years, negative ions in strong laser fields have begun to be investigated since only quite recently. It is important to study the subject of negative ions thoroughly, since their properties and character are quite different from those of neutral atoms and new information can therefore be gained on intense-light matter interaction. In particular, negative ions differ from atoms in the way in which the outer electron is bound, in atoms, this electron is bound in a long-range Coulomb potential, while in negative ions it is bound in a short-range induced-dipole potential.
