Abstract
Let G be a LCA-group with dual group Γ. In this paragraph shall we introduce the negative definite functions. After giving some equivalent formulations of the notion of negative definiteness, elementary properties and simple examples of negative definite functions are discussed. Many of the considerations are of an algebraic nature and do not involve the topology of the group.
