Necrosis of Forehead Skin From a Tight Dressing

Abstract

A CASE of forehead skin necrosis due to pressure arising from a tight woven elastic bandage is presented. In a search through the literature, we have not found a similar case reported. Applied Anatomy The forehead has a rich blood supply as does the rest of the face. This is evident from the bleeding which is encountered with injury to the forehead and the bleeding which is noted during surgical incisions in the brow and forehead area. Both the external and internal carotid arteries contribute to the blood supply. The supratrochlear and supraorbital vessels are terminal branches of the frontal artery which originates from the ophthalmic artery. This, in turn, is a branch of the internal carotid artery.
