Abstract

There have been frequent invasions of consumer-level micro unmanned-aerial-vehicles (MUAVs) against some important protected objects and places in megacities in recent years. How to deal with the threats of such low-slow-small (LSS) invaders has become a significant worldwide problem. This article analyzes the necessity of developing anti-MUAV technologies and constructing anti-MUAV systems in megacities. Based on an analysis of characteristics of urban environments and LSS invaders, models of ultra-low-altitude attack and defense are constructed and then a “three-region and four-level” scheme of the anti-MUAV defense system is proposed. The three regions refer to 1) a long range surveillance region, 2) a medium-short range interception region, and 3) a terminal strike region. The four levels range from equipments to subsystems to systems to across-systems. Based on the this scheme, an anti-MUAV defense system is designed to perform the functions of the emergency's real-time monitoring and urban mission's rapid execution. The technical characteristics of the ultra-low-altitude defense system are also analyzed and illuminated. In summary, it is proved that a foundation for the development of individual anti-MUAV technology and equipment can be built.
