Rene Penning de Vries, the chief technology officer at Philips Semiconductors, is less than happy with the direction that the design-tools suppliers have taken, forcing the company to do more tools work inhouse than it should need to. Its Caen research centre has developed a number of SiP techniques but Rene Penning de Vries said the electronic design automation (EDA) and test industries have some work to do.
