Abstract
Necessary and sufficient conditions for the controllability and observability of general series parallel or feedback composite linear multivariable systems of the class investigated by Davison and wang(1) are obtained by exploiting certain properties of the generalised resultant(7), (8). These conditions are expressed directly in terms of the parameters of the state equations of the sub-systems and in terms of the interconnecting parameters of the composite systems in the manner of Davison and Wang(1), but the present conditions require no computations of eigenvalue spectra.
