Abstract

The optimal fixed-order dynamic compensation problem is considered in the case of linear discrete-time systems with quadratic criteria. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a unique optimal stabilizing compensator of given order are derived. A test, explicit in the system matrices, is provided to determine if a given system satisfies the necessary and sufficient conditions
