Abstract

Separate calibrations for fish and chicken carcasses were developed to predict chemical composition (percent crude protein and fat) and gross energy (GE) by near infrared reflectance analysis (NIRA). Percent crude protein (CP), percent fat and kJ g−1 of GE in the fish samples were predicted with standard error of the estimate (SEE) of 1.8, 1.4 and 1.7 respectively. The SEE values for the prediction of CP, percent fat and kJ g−1 of GE in chicken carcasses were 1.7, 2 and 0.54 respectively. Key words: Fish, chicken, carcass, NIRA, composition, energy
