Abstract
Room temperature laser action of Cr4+ doped Y3ScxAl5-xO12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.7) garnet crystals is presented. The crystal field strength weakens with the increase of the scandium content and the laser emission shifts to longer wavelengths. Free running laser wavelengths are 1440nm, 1498nm, 1548nm, 1584nm and 1608nm for x = 0, 0.4, 0.9, 1.4, and 1.7, respectively. Continuous tunability is obtained from 1309nm to 1628nm with these crystals.
