Abstract

The statistics of the spatial spectral functions and the mutual intensity functions for the field diffracted by a general anisotropic thin random phase screen are studied. An anisotropy enhancement effect for the mutual intensity functions is discussed and it is found that the quasi-periodic fluctuations in the spatial spectral functions are much less apparent in the general case than in the two limiting cases of isotropic and one-dimensional screens. A modified distance factor is introduced in connexion with the variations of the scintillation index and the average amplitude of the field as a function of the distance from the screen.
