Abstract
With the advent of computers and the digital age, digital signal processing algorithms have revolutionized data analysis and interpretation in numerous industries. Nondestructive evaluation has seen an increasing use of automated signal analysis (ASA) applied to large volume of NDE sensor data in an attempt to reduce maintenance costs and down time. An ASA system comprises four major steps, namely, (1) signal enhancement and restoration, (2) feature extraction and evaluation, (3) signal classification and (4) signal characterization. This article gives a brief sketch of different commonly used digital signal and image processing algorithms used in the analysis and interpretation of NDE data.
