Abstract
NdBa2Cu3Oy (Nd123) single crystals were grown by the flux method in low oxygen atmospheres using ZrO2 and Nd2O3 crucibles. The effects of the oxygen partial pressure (P O2) and the crucible materials on the flux-grown Nd123 single crystals were investigated. High quality Nd123 single crystals with onset T c of 93–95 K could successfully be obtained in a low P O2 using both ZrO2 and Nd2O3 crucibles. The peak effect was commonly observed on the M-H loops and a large J c value (> 2 × 104 A/cm2, 2 T) at 77 K and for H//c was achieved for the Nd123 crystals grown in the ZrO2 crucible.
