Abstract

Making the decision to transition from nursing leadership to academia requires both thought and preparation. Nurse leaders come with specialty knowledge and skill but may not be prepared for the unique expectations of the academic role. As with any major change, there are challenges that can lead to stress and opportunities that may facilitate success. Decision-making best begins with fully understanding the role of the academic and the expectations. This article takes the nurse leader through a review of the academic role to inform and then assist in exploring options to best prepare for the role transition.
