Abstract

No one ever promised that the university department chair position was going to be an easy one. On any given day, the chair has the responsibility to make a multitude of decisions, with each decision having the potential to impact the department either positively or negatively. Consequently, effective department leaders have developed their own special skill set that helps them to make the right decisions at the right times, relying on research and data to support their decisions.
