Abstract

The six naupliar stages of Zaus unisetosus Ito reared in the laboratory, are described in detail. This species passes through six such stages before metamorphosis to the first copepodid stage. At 20°C, the first copepodid stage was reached in 6-9 (mean 7.5) days after hatching. The nauplii of Z. unisetosus are similar in morphology to those of Z. spinatus but could be distinguished by differences in size and appendage setation. They are also easily distinguishable from nauplii of other harpacticoid species by the inner spinule fan on the antennal and mandibular endopodite.
