Introduction

This paper presents the results of a study undertaken on the nature of pre-retirement education in the teaching fraternity. It begins by providing the milieu of the study in which are: the statement of the problem, the purpose of the study, objectiveof the study, research question and the significance of the study. In traditional societies, experienced members of those societies (elders) were at the helm of the transmission of knowledge from one generation to the other. They taught through apprenticeship and conducted initiation ceremonies among other activities. The value of experienced teachers dates back to the tender years of the teaching profession (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2009)
