Abstract

Two to three hours after the intravenous injection of herpes simplex virus (109.3 p.f.u.) into the guinea pig a single peak of fever (+2.4°C) was usually observed. The characteristics of this fever were in many respects comparable to those of fever produced by influenza virus. The pyrogenicity of herpesvirus was neutralized by specific anti-herpes serum and found to be closely associated with infectious virus particle.
